Sound healing – vibration, energy, frequency

I’m thrilled to see sound healing becoming more mainstream.  ‘If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration,’ said physicist Nikola Tesla.
Sound healers would definitely agree. ‘Disease is simply part of our body vibrating out of tune,’ says veteran sound healer Jonathan Goldman. ‘Every organ, bone, tissue…has a healthy frequency. When that frequency alters, that part of the body vibrates out of harmony and that is what is termed disease.’  Equally, by sending the correct tones and rhythms back into the body, we can coax ourselves back to health.

I love the idea that we can help our own healing through something as simple as sound. I have used Goldman’s Chakra Healing tape (yes, it’s so old it really is a cassette tape!) for more years than I can recall. You move up the body toning a different level of sound at each chakra. By the end of each session I fall into the deepest state of meditation I have ever experienced.

Last year I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of Soul Medicine – the latest venture by wonder-healer Denise Leicester (founder of holistic beauty brands ila spa and ilapothecary). Denise has always been fascinated by the healing power of sound and, if you ever experience an ila treatment you’ll find it’s accompanied by the soft chanting of healing mantras (total bliss).

Now she has moved one step further, making music that actually resonates with the heartbeat of the planet. Soul Medicine uses the 432Hz frequency, known as the ‘heart’ frequency. It has been found to balance both hemispheres of the brain and many people believe it can allow us to access peace and harmony – with ourselves and Mother Earth.

It sounds exquisite: bell-like voices harmonising around a backdrop of violin and sound bowls. I sat, eyes closed, and let myself drift away to a place of deep calm and total relaxation. Truly, I felt as if I were lying on a fluffy cloud having my face stroked by angels.
Two research doctors tested the effects of listening to the music. They found that blood pressure lowered while blood circulation improved. Each track showed a positive effect on the brain and central nervous system promoting relaxation, changing stress patterns, enhancing sleep, regulating immunity and improving focus and mental acuity.

Denise firmly believes heart frequency music can help everyone. She introduced the music to a group of women who had experienced seriously tough lives – living on the street, suffering domestic abuse and battling with addiction. At first the women were deeply suspicious yet, as Denise continued to play, their hostility shifted to a gentleness and open vulnerability. ‘The change was extraordinary,’ Denise recalls. ‘They really wanted the music. Vibrational remedies are a language anyone can accept. They are an invitation to be with yourself. They open the heart.’
